EMU OIL AS A TREATMENT FOR HAIR LOSS
Down Under,
it is valued mostly for its ability to heal a sunburn. But here, Emu
Oil is taking off as a promising anti-aging ingredient. Recent research
has shown the super moisturizing oil, which is derived from the Emu,
a flightless bird that inhabits the Australian outback, to be potentially
valuable in both rejuvenating skin and reversing hair loss.
In a small study conducted by Michael F. Holick
M.D., Ph.D., professors of medicine, physiology and dermatology
at Boston University School of Medicine, the skin of mice treated
with Emu Oil became two to four times thicker compared to that of
a control group; an important finding considering that skin thins
as it ages. No less exciting was the discovery that over 80 percent
of the dormant hair follicles were reawakened and began growing
hair after just two weeks of once a day applications of the oil
which contains a significant level of fatty acids that also help
the skin to retain moisture.
